Brand Story
In 1960, my grandfather used this character “Sho” to name his traditional confectionery store Sho Ho Dou (松芳堂) in Shizuoka. It was a beloved part of my childhood and community, known for mochi sweets and Shizuoka-style “oden” enjoyed with local sencha tea.
After his retirement, I carried on his legacy by taking the character “Sho” and launching our tea brand, Matsu. Shizuoka is one of Japan’s leading tea regions, with the Kawane area known for premium tea leaves.
Our family has farmed tea here for generations. Today, we offer high-quality matcha and green tea from regions including Shizuoka, Kyoto, Mie, Fukuoka, and Kagoshima.

“Matsu” means “pine tree” in Japanese.
The kanji 松 appears in the celebratory phrase “Sho-Chiku-Bai” (松竹梅), symbolizing prosperity, happiness, and good fortune. The character 松 can also be read as “Sho,” and holds deep cultural significance in Japan.

Japan produces over 500 tonnes of tea annually, exported worldwide.
Our branches are in Shizuoka, Japan and Sydney, Australia. MATSU exports direct from Japan to our global clients in Asia, Middle East, Africa, EU, US and Canada.
We also specialize in OEM, supporting partners in creating and promoting their own tea brands.
